Settlement of the first poet of non-rhymed poetry in Urdu

Blank verse is an un-rhyming verse written with regular metrical lines in poetry. In Urdu the trend of blank verse came from English literature. Conflicting opinions come before us in deciding the first poet of the non-rhyme poem in Urdu. In this connection the name of Muhammad Hussain Azad, Ismail Mirthi, Nazm Tabatabai and Altaf Hussain Hali are mentioned. The authorship of Azad’s poems is not known from his collection or other sources. However there are some evidences on the basis of which their time of authorship can be determined. In this article it is established that Molana Muhammad Hussain Azad has priority in creating blank verse in Urdu upon the other writers of his time. In this refrence, the names of other pioneers are also settled in the article.
