The Archetype of the ‘Altuist’ in Premchand’s Short stories
Abstract
This article seeks first to explain the defining features of the archetype of the Altruist and then traces its instances in Premchand’s Short stories. In Premchand’s fiction, there are not only characters who oppress the working class, but also those who love humanity. Many of Premchand’s fictional characters live under the paradoxical reality that true happiness springs from a man’s heart when he express feelings of tenderness, love and kindness to others. In this article, an attempt has been made to bring out the fictional characters of Premchand, which are not show only the dark side of humanity; Rather they also show a bright side.
