Abstract

This article entitled “The Prosodic Study of Mustafa Zaidi's Meters “is an effort to understand the Prosodic system used by the poet Mustafa Zaidi in his Kulayat. Mustafa Zaidi is a renowned poet of Urdu literature; he used meters with excellence and his poetry contained extraordinary poetic qualities which made him distinguish in the history of Urdu literature. He used Urdu meters with ease and great mastery and utilize most of the meters available in Urdu poetry. Mustafa Zaidi used various form of urdu poetry like Gazal, Nazam and Rubai with equal ease. His diction of poetry is in classic traditional language. The subject of the poetry mostly revolved around romantic themes, migration and Marxist ideology. Mustafa Zaidi’s life was full of mystery, controversary and his love life entangled him into many problems. This study will help to understand the system of Aruz available in Urdu language and will guide the students and researchers on this subject and also shed light into the experiment did by Mustafa Zaidi while using Aruz. As per this research the favorite meter of Mustafa Zaid is Bara Ramal Musamman Makhboon Mehzoof. This article also explains all the meter used by Mustafa Zaidi and segregated his poetry as per meters.
