Abstract

Bagh is Abdullah Hussain's second novel, which is written on the subject of subversive activities in Kashmir in the background of the 1945 Indo-Pakistani war. Asad is the main character of this novel. Asad falls in love with Yasmeen, Hakeem's daughter, and meets her in seclusion and thus the character provides evidence of a social decline that proves an anti-hero. After that, when Hakeem is killed, Asad is put in jail and he is subjected to various atrocities. He is such a helpless, forced and helpless character that he is unable to defend himself. He is not a murderer but still he is made a murderer and is so weak that he cannot present himself as a positive character to the society. In fact, Asad is the main character of this novel, but he will not be called a hero because he does not have the characteristics of a hero, but lacks them. In the character of Asad, we do not see the courage to stand anywhere, the ability to make decisions and the quality to face the situation like a man. That is why we can call him an anti-hero.
